Below is my 2nd blog of Italy. Check out videos, pictures, and if you feel inclined, read the details I wrote about my experience Abroad!
Well here goes another big blog. I do apologize for the length of these videos. I will work to make them more exciting and shorter, so they are more enjoyable to watch! Below you find some text, videos and pictures about the introduction to Siena, a little bit about what I see on my walk to school, the first day of school, and a little bit about the amazing city I get to call home.
The first three weeks have been quite intense. It honestly does not feel like three weeks, but already like half the semester has come and gone. So much has happened, and so many experiences have been had. I will try and share some of these with you, as best I can, but of course even I cannot do it justice with the photos and videos. There is a very special, very particular feeling that I have here. Almost like I have been here before, in a past life, and have been a part of this place in one way or another. Immediately after arriving I felt at home, and that feeing made me smile.
The first thing after getting off the bus, was the giving of the students to their host families. In a big parking lot gathered all the host families, waiting with eager faces for the arrival of us twenty some students. As eager as the families were, I would say there was an equally eager feeling among the students on the bus. We unloaded the bus, and our hundreds of pounds of luggage, and immediately my host family recognized me. They had looked me up online, and knew a little bit about me before I arrived, and apparently were able to spot my face with ease as I exited the bus. With open arms and a warm heart, I was welcomed to their family. We piled into the car and set off for the drive to their apartment just north of the ancient city of Siena. My host family is absolutely awesome. They speak a lot of english, and we have many conversations every night. In the near future I will make a video with my host family and share with you the great people I have been blessed to live with and know.
The first weekend, we traveled through Siena, and started to become acquainted with the narrow streets that lead you in every possible direction. We started working on the paperwork necessary for the residence permit, which is necessary in order to live here in Italy. We also became acquainted with some of the local food. If you would like to see some of the great food Click Here! It has been very interesting figuring out the different voltage outlet system and correct adaptors, the Italian bathrooms, and the bus system. But overall, it has been an amazingly fun experience of learning and figuring all this out. There is a real magic about this place!
On the first day of school, I rode the public bus with my two host sisters, Clara and Blanca, to the bus stop at Siena, and walked my 20 minute walk to school. Along the way I passed several of the main attractions of Siena for the first time. I had a hard time not stopping and getting a photo every few seconds, as it was so pretty. As you will see in the videos below, I pass some pretty amazing places! Every day for the first 3 weeks, we have intensive Italian in the morning, where we learn the language, and in the afternoon we travel with Roberto, instructor at the School, walking through Siena and learning about it’s rich history. I enjoy trying to find new places to eat and try things on the menu that I struggle to pronounce. Everything I eat is not good… it is beyond great! Literally every single thing! Now, a few weeks have gone by, and I decided to make my video to introduce Siena. Try to forgive the loud construction in the background, and the length of the video.
We have an amazing group of staff members here at the Siena School. I want to feature several of them on my website and in my blog, and below I have a video of Roberto; our super-informed tour guide, school vice-director and overall great person!
Check out below some of the videos and pictures I have taken so far to introduce to you, my new home… Siena.
P.S. look forward to the next blog about my most recent travels: Arezzo, Florence and Venice!!
